SantaCruz Jackal 2008 and 2009

The guys at SantaCruz are well known for making very good quality,contest-winning,bikes.This post is about one of their best known models, the Jackal. It has suffered a LOT of modifications since it came out (I do not know when it came out exactly, around the 90’s).The ‘97 model was a 4x race bike;later, the frame moved to more of a “do-it-all” bike (check out the 2008).Speaking of the 2008 model, that seems to be one of the toughest hardtail frames ever made!Actually,I have never seen any single one of them broken (either on the internet or real life).Same goes with other of their models.I have seen these 2008’s used for everything you can think of,like hardtail freeriding/downhilling,dirt,street or all mountain riding. That is what I like about that frame, actually (apart from the beautiful shape):the fact that it is very versatile.
Even though the 2008 did its job in a brilliant way, pleasing psychopathic freeriders or hardcore dirt riders aside, the guys at SantaCruz thought that they should change the Jackal’s target a little bit,so,for 2009,we have a simple,CR-MO,street/dirt jumping frame. It is a shame that they killed one of the most versatile bikes ever made;the 2009 Jackal should have been a total different story:it is made out of other material,it is pointed only at dirtjumpers and street riders, all that stuff.Ok,sure, the 2008 model was not as good as this new one for jumping only, but what the hell, who bought a Jackal (speaking of the 2008 now) ONLY to jump it ?
Personal,I am pretty mad at the SC guys for killing a legend, and I am really looking into getting one for myself, before they will be almost “extinct”.Ahhh,I’m so getting one one day!Ok,and now the pics:

Straitline prices

Hi there.I was browsing CRC when I came across a Straitline seat clamp.Price?35.70E.On a damn sale, that is !For instance, a Hope seatclamp is around 15 E.So goes with stems.Ok,I do not question their quality, but why the hell are them so darn expensive?A Straitline leverblade for 55 E?Two of those levers cost as much as one of my whole brake systems!
Still comparing them to Hope,a Straitline headset spacer kit is 20 E.Some Hope ones are around 8 euros.WHY?!Are the Straitline ones any BETTER?In what way could they be ?!
Oh yeah, let’s get to the pedals!Stratiline SC Platform Pedals:around 120 Eur.Some similar Tioga’s:55 Euro.Ok,I do not doubt their performance, better bearings and stuff. But,will you actually fell that price difference on the trails ?!I doubt you will.I have been using some cheap pedals for 5 and a half months now (not to mention the pair before them).Ok,they are not top-notch stuff, but they grip good and are pretty much a low-profile design.I do not think I will be needing anything better for a long time from now, really. They were around 20 euros. But then again, bling costs, right ?

Anatomy

Here’s a little “what the hell is the name of this?” pic that I made based on a Kona Stab downhill bike:

Hey,I guess I’ll post it up,even though I am pretty much sure you all have seen it.
